MISSION STATEMENT

St. Philomena Catholic School is part of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and serves the diverse population within the greater Carson area. Under the leadership of the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles, the dedicated staff integrates spiritual and moral values into the curriculum within a safe, structured and family-like learning environment. The school is fully accredited by both State and Catholic agencies, and the rigorous academic expectations exceed the norms established by State Standards. We are dedicated to the growth and development of our students by helping them become responsible and participating members of the Catholic Church and of society. Our goal is to nurture within the students a love for God and others, as well as challenging them to achieve their greatest potential and, one day, enter into our ultimate goal – Heaven.

  • Junior High Retreat at the Convent By Ryan, 5th Grade A Junior High half-day prayer retreat was held on October 25, 2012 in Room A of the Carmelite Sisters’ convent. It was an exciting experience, according to the junior high students. They prayed the rosary and had a mass, which was celebrated by a visiting priest from Wilmington. “We had a very meaningful prayer experience,” said Stephanie Del Rosario. “This retreat strengthened our relationship with God.” Also, a staff from our parish Religious Education Program (REP) visited the students at the convent and read the book You Are Special by Max Lucado. “It’s a very simple book, but very touching. It reminds us that we are precious to God just the way we are,” said Beatrice Filart.

  • "Field Trip to Santa Teresita" By Maria, 5th Grade Sixth and seventh graders went to visit the elderly at Santa Teresita Manor in Duarte on October 22, 2012. They also had the opportunity to tell stories about their lives. Afterwards, everyone had lunch and the sixth and seventh graders performed a FOP song before they left. Nathaniel, another 7th grader, said that he had an awesome day and that he would want to go there again.
