Technology in the Classroom
The advances and expansion of technology in recent years has made a significant impact on education. At St. Philomena we have Internet connectivity throughout the school, interactive white boards in all the classrooms, and average of six desktop computers in each classroom, a computer lab with forty computers, laptops for use by the 3rd – 5th graders, and the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders have their own notebook computers. St. Philomena School maintains an electronic usage policy located in the Parent/Student Handbook.
The technology is utilized to improve instruction and thus impact student learning. The technology is helping us differentiate instruction and provide more individualized learning. With the proper use of technology, we are doing a better job of teaching math, science, reading, etc. to all the children at their level.
In the technology/computer classes, the students are learning to use PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Movie Maker, etc. It is important for the children to know how to use these standard programs as tools to improve their learning.
part of our commitment to providing students with opportunities to use
technology responsibly and to enhance learning, we are pursuing
certification for Digital Citizenship. Family resources are available at
